D16S NOHO at June DCM
EC, North Hollywood, D16S
Last month, D16S had their first division council meeting of the term. Members from all schools played water games, participated in rock painting, and enjoyed their time under the sun. Club, Member, and Officer of the month were presented during the DCM, we congratulate everyone who received an award! For the first DCM of the new term, we consider this a big success. The attendance and planning was on point! North Hollywood High aims for consistent attendance, that said we hope to see you at the next DCM! We thank the DLT for such an amazing event!
OTC
TM, Clark Magnet, D03N
July's OTC was held at Herbert Hoover High School on Sunday, July 7, 2024. I noticed that a large number of people attended the event. In other words, people from different schools within D03N and DO3S regions attended. There were attendees from Clark Magnet (myself included), Verdugo Hills, Crescenta Valley, Hoover, and more. This month's OTC had more than one primary activity. There were Round Robins, where you were divided into groups and rotated to learn about the various positions in Key Club (whether you are a part of the DLT or an officer/member of your school's Key Club). Furthermore, there were General Sessions in which the LTGs discussed various topics related to Key Club. As part of the OTC, we also had a mini scavenger hunt that involved eight tasks. The first three people to email their evidence to Jacklyn, DO3S's LTG, would win a prize. Plushies were given away as prizes. I had a positive experience during this month's OTC. During this experience, I gained a greater understanding of the various positions in Key Club and found it beneficial to learn more about them.
Family Fun Day
CS, Wonderful College Prep Academy, D33
This was an event called Family Fun Day held by Delano Kiwanis at Memorial Park on July 3rd, 2024. In this picture, the Wonderful College Prep Key Club president participated in a watermelon-eating competition and won an award granting him the watermelon-eating champion and 20 dollars. In this picture, he is also posing with one of our astounded Kiwanis who announced him the winner.
Officer Training Conference
AU, Enochs, D46N
This year’s Officer Training Conference was an engaging learning experience for many key clubbers, officers, and members. Hosted at Turlock High School on June 14, members and largely officers from Division 46 North and Division 46 South attended to learn more about their respective roles, the key club environment in general, and how to improve themselves in various aspects. Being the Enochs Key Club News Editor, I found myself attending three sessions amongst the nine available: Sophia’s Vice President and President presentation, Michelle’s Key Club Rizz presentation, and Celine’s Editor presentation. At the VP and president workshop, Sophia did an incredible job explaining in great and engaging detail the responsibilities and tasks that come with these roles, and how to manage them while taking care of oneself. Michelle’s Key Club Rizz presentation was especially entertaining, with a lighthearted atmosphere around it, along with nice details surrounding how to attract and keep members engaged going into a new key club term. I was happy to aid D46N’s news editor, Celine, in her editor’s presentation, and greatly enjoyed seeing all the details concerning my position along the way. All in all, this event was incredibly engaging and a fun way to interact with others from a different division. The information was abundant and even more interactive than last year. I’d greatly recommend other key clubbers, even if they are not officers, to attend this event in the future, as it provides easy-to-digest details about positions that may interest members.
East Bay Takes Steps
MJ, Clayton Valley, D26N
On Saturday, June 8, 2024, Division 26 North attended the East Bay Takes Steps at Heather Farms Park. We were asked to cheer on the attendees once they reached the end but encouraged to participate in the walk! The event was to fundraise for research and education on IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). We were given ribbons, and you were supposed to pick the color that applies to you. (I.E. white for caregiver) You would then tie the ribbon to the rope, and the rope was featured at the finish line. Many stories were being told, from people who have IBD to people who knew people who dealt with IBD. We were provided with water, bagels, chips, etc. There were many sponsors like Stanford Medicine. Other than D26N, there were many volunteers, even from San Francisco! At the end of the event, we helped take down the chairs, tents, etc. There were these little blown-up "wood" stump chairs, and they took forever to break down. Overall, this event was a very fulfilling event to volunteer at, and it was interesting to hear everyone's story.
