Slime Fundraiser
JC, Grace Davis, D46N
On December 9th, members helped manage a slime and hot chocolate fundraiser at the Grace Davis High School ‘Winter Workshop’ event, where various clubs set up booths with activities or products in order to help gain funds for their club. Grace Davis Key Club sold their remaining slime supply from their ‘Fall Fest’ booth (repackaging it as ‘Yeti Slime’) and also sold hot chocolate. The club sold out of all their slime and hot chocolate supplies, raising $213 for their club.
New Service Projects
NO, West Ranch, D16N
WR Key Club is super excited to begin a new semester! Our members worked so hard last year and we are so glad to see what they will achieve in 2023! During our final meeting of the previous semester, our Spirit and Fundraising Committee (SP/F) prepared our annual 12 Projects of Service Event! Each day had a different activity for members to do. For example, Day 1 had members make a snowflake that would later be hung in the Stevenson Ranch Library. Some projects had to be left at our drop-off location or photographed for proof of completion. This was the perfect opportunity for members to earn service hours whilst enjoying winter festivities. To start off the new year, some service projects have just been announced or are in the works at WR! Schoolhouse.world is our newest long-term service project where members can earn hours by preparing virtual tutoring sessions or hosting live ones! The organization was founded by Khan Academy and even has their own Key Club leaderboard. With the many new projects being planned, WRKC is starting off the new year strong!
MapSwipe
BK, El Camino Real Charter, D16W
From December 7th to January 7th, we had an asynchronous activity on the Map Swipe app. This was an amazing opportunity to get hours over winter break when other service events were limited. Mapswipe was a very calming service event. On the Mapswipe app, you would be shown a map and you would click on certain features on the map such as mobile houses or buildings.
Holiday Parade
NS, Chatsworth Charter, D16W
The Chatsworth Holiday Parade and Festival was an event where families could bring their kids to play fun and exciting games, look at the different booths set up, and enjoy a wonderful parade. Members could choose to help in any or all of the shifts which was helping set-up, managing the games and watching out for the kids and being in the parade if they wanted to, members could also have helped with the clean-up.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing
BB, McKinleyville, D20
Throughout the month of December, some of our members volunteered as bell ringers for our local Salvation Army. This is the second time getting to ring bells and it's always a delightful experience. This time I was able to spend time with a friend and our club advisor and have a nice conversation while spreading holiday cheer. Some of our younger members also had positive experiences and will hopefully have more to come.
