Letters to the Military
AF, GALA, D13W
On November 17, 2022, GALA Key Clubbers participated in a school-wide, in-person service event! This service project honored those that have served in the military with holiday cards and was replete with festive cheer. We started off with our usual updates—both old and new—and had some icebreakers to cue everyone in. Then, we were able to dive right into card-making, and it’s safe to say that our creativity was overflowing. Overall, we were incredibly honored to be able to spread some holiday spirit to others.
Rose Float
JV, Cerritos, D13N
On December 30th, Region 8 blissfully plunged into a vibrant world of roses for Region 8 Ohana - Rose Float Decorating! D13N, D13S, D13W, D19N, and D19S all joined efforts. During the Rose Float Decorating, we dispersed into two shifts, the day shift and night shift, learning about fellowship with others as well as the importance of abiding to the rules and cutting down our monkey business in order to keep the environment and the people safe from harm. We were assigned tasks, some small, such as prepping the flowers which would be used for multiple floats, and some large, such as putting their creativity up to the test when decorating the float! After gobbling down PB&J sandwiches, Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, and cookies the Cookie Monster would approve of, we rotated tasks and went back to business! In each task, we put in the utmost amount of effort, with the occasional hollers of “SCAFFOLDING!” as a signal to make way for the people transporting them. Befriending and working together with people from different divisions made the experience more enjoyable as we found more ways to connect! With this year’s theme of Turning the Corner, our float was the international Kiwanis bear mascot surfing, with our theme as “Catching the Wave of Service!”
Cards for St. Jude’s Hospital
KW, D4W
With this event, our members were able to spread positivity through kind messages sent to children who are battling cancer. As stated previously due to the chaotic and fulfilled month of December we wanted to work around our member's schedules so they could still have the opportunity to complete simple service hours. This was an online event that simply consisted of writing a kind and uplifting message. The completion of 10 cards was equivalent to 1 hour of service. Our members could receive up to 4 hours of service maximum. The outcome of this online service event consisted of 2 service hours completed with 20 cards being sent out to St. Jude’s Hospital.
December DCM
TN, D4N
I had a blast at the Division 4 North x Division 4 West Winter WonderlanDCM: Ice Skating! It took place on December 17th at KHS Ice and was a ton of fun for the entire 2 hour duration! In the beginning of the event, Lieutenant Governor Lina Tran hosted the actual D04N DCM with announcements from each individual club and DLT officers. It was very intriguing hearing what all the other schools within the division were doing and catching up on their holiday-related service events and festivities. Afterwards, both divisions were free to mingle amongst the giant rink and skate freely for the rest of the time! Although many members were new to skating, including both me and my friends, it was still funny to see one another fall and try to grasp onto each other for support. The night ended off with a group photo of both divisions together as well as some bittersweet goodbyes. I was so glad to have met so many new friends that night so I will definitely be returning to next year’s annual Ice Skating DCM again!
Crescent Elementary's Winter Festival
KV, D4E
Over the past month, Canyon Key Club has stayed active with helping the community and raising funds. During the month of Christmas, we had multiple service events including an event we help out at almost every year at Crescent Elementary’s Winter Festival. Club members there volunteered at many booths and also kept up with the festive cheer! Now that we’re back off break, we can prepare more events and fundraisers to announce at our next general meeting as well!
