Wildest Show in Town
LP, Maryknoll, D22H
What could possibly be a better way to start the month of July than helping out our local zoo? The Honolulu Zoo this month hosted the “Wildest Show Concert” and needed helping hands! Volunteers helped with different stations such as keiki coloring, animal plush lucky draw, ‘Io formation station, and ‘Io naming contest. This event happened every Wednesday starting at 3:00 pm, which gave many opportunities to give back to the community! A highlight from the event would have to be from working with the children and being able to bring a smile to their faces. Being able to actively participate in the community helps not only others, but everyone involved!
Pastries for Lodi Kiwanis
SD, Lodi, D27N
Pastries for Lodi Kiwanis was an event that Ms. Jonell Steckman and our president, Erika, worked to raise funds to donate to the Pediatric Trauma Program. Our VP, Sherlyn, and Erika worked for hours to bake 6 different kinds of pastries. As they both lacked experience with decorating, the decorations weren’t the best and it was a struggling time. These pastries were then auctioned off at a Lodi Kiwanis general meeting, they both led the meeting along with Ms. Steckman. The meeting went smoothly. There were a lot of laughs that filled the room. When it came to the auction, they were told to explain each of the pastries and walked around the room to show each item thoroughly. Overall, coming from our president, it was a great time baking and communicating with the members of Lodi Kiwanis. They were very funny and supportive of the event, helping to raise almost $500.
Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast
KD, D07S
I was prepared for a challenging morning by getting up at five in the morning for the Kiwanis pancake event. We were assigned to serve the families who attended the event when we arrived, and while it started out slowly, things picked up speed as the day went on. Soon enough, there were lines of people waiting for their breakfast! We also received brunch as the rush settled down, and we took a break before cleaning the space. Finally, we arrived at a park with an electronic piano built into the play area, and I figured out how to play Mary Had a Little Lamb!
Lake Chabot Charity Miles
FL, Kipp King Collegiate, D02S
In the month of June, Kipp King held a charity mile hike at Lake Chabot Regional Park. The Charity miles Hike at Lake Chabot was a great event because Key Clubbers could donate money to our preferred charities and explore the outdoors. In addition to raising money for our preferred charities, we were able to bond as a club through the grueling 10 miles up and down the hills of Lake Chabot.
