Sunset Stroll
FT, Alameda, D02S
On Friday, October 7th, Alameda Key Club held a Charity Miles Sunset Walk at Crab Cove in Alameda. During this event, members and officers walked along Crab cove and the beach with the charity miles app on their phones. This app donates money to the charity of your choosing (ours is March of Dimes) for how many miles you walk. As well as being a service event this was also a great member bonding event for people to bond and make new friends. The event lasted about two hours with more than a dozen people showing up and it was a ton of fun. We hope to hold more events like this in the future!
Fall Rally North
SG, River Valley, D14
On October 22nd, Division 14 attended Fall Rally North and I am super grateful I got the chance to attend as it was not only my first time at fall rally but also my first time at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. It was a super enriching experience to be able to go to the park and engage with other key clubbers from different divisions. During the rally it was really astounding how all the divisions were able to work together and it was awesome how we all got to show off our spirit in a friendly competition while still supporting and uplifting others with our sportsmanship cheers. While we may not have won it was a super fun rally and we got to spend time with members from our division and make new friends with people from other divisions. The atmosphere of encouragement that we witnessed emphasizes the community values of key club and the community is what key club represents. After the rally we got to go with our friends and go on some of the rides, despite the long wait and scary drop I think that the joker is a pretty fun ride but my favorite ride was the kid swings where someone tried to challenge us to a spirit battle mid ride. Overall fall rally north was super fun and it was very satisfying to see how the hours we have put into helping our community allowed us to have fun with other members of Key Club.
Dog Toy Making
VC, Mckinleyville, D20
This project was so fun! It felt so nice to start a big project with the club and have all our members participate, and it was really nice that people brought in clothes to help contribute. All in all I’d say it was a great start to the year!
Scarcrow Festival
SW, Costa Mesa, D04C
The Costa Mesa Scarecrow Festival was a fantastic community service opportunity! The festival took place on October 15, 2022. Many of the paid key club members attended but we also had a ton of new community service members join us that day to have fun! The event was mainly for children and families so each person got to choose the station they wanted to help out in. There was a wide selection of stations to work at. For example, there were candy stations where volunteers had the chance to hand out candy to the children and interact with them. There were also different game stations, pumpkin decorating stations, face paint stations, and so much more! Each student had the ability to rotate so that they got to experience a little bit of everything while still helping out and making this event much more enjoyable! Volunteers also got the amazing opportunity to experience a small costume parade where the kids went around and showed off their wonderful costumes! This event was a great volunteer experience.
Boo at The Zoo
TT, La Quinta, D04N
In the month of October, I had an extremely memorable experience volunteering at Boo at the Zoo! At this event, I helped out many children that came to the zoo to receive candy and participate in various activities. My friends and I worked at the bat-making craft booth where we taught the kids how to make bats from a toilet paper roll, paper wings, and googly eyes. Many children came by our booth and made unique-looking bats. Some drew small hearts on their wings while others decorated them with skulls and bones. The kids were also dressed up in exceedingly creative costumes; for example, I was impressed by one girl who was a sea anemone from Finding Nemo with little clownfish in between the tentacles. Because I was able to work with these children, I also expanded on my communication skills while volunteering, especially since I had to simplify my verbal instructions when walking them through the bat-crafting process. The event ended at around 8 and we stayed back to help clean up. Although I was tired from volunteering, I had an enjoyable time with my friends and other volunteers as we navigated through the struggles of guiding children while being fueled solely on generic Hot Cheetos and tangy Mexican candies. All in all, Boo at the Zoo was an exciting and memorable service event for me, and I'm very grateful for this engaging volunteer opportunity and the memories that I made throughout the night.
