JBHS Library Volunteering

Our white tigers at John Burroughs High School are volunteering the summer away at their school library! Since May 31st, JBHS Key Clubbers were helping our textbook coordinator alphabetize, sort, inventory textbooks, deliver, and repair books. As this is an ongoing event throughout the summer, working days are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and anyone can work any hours between 8 AM-2 PM. This flexible volunteering opportunity does not end until August 11, additionally, we will be helping throughout registration week, as it approaches, welcoming back our old students, and new ones, as we help everyone get their textbooks! Our Key Clubbers at JBHS got this awesome opportunity to maintain a productive summer while helping out our wonderful textbook coordinator! 
Opportunity Village

On Monday, June 30th, our club had our first service project of the 22’-23’ school year! This opportunity was offered by Opportunity Village, an organization in which we have worked with before. Some of our officers and members had offered to help. Opportunity Village’s thrift store needed help with organizing some of their items, so some of the various tasks consisted of counting inventory and organizing the donations. This was a great first service project and we can’t wait to help out again!
Lavender & Honey Festival

I attended the lavender and honey event. It was a fun event although very hot. We got to spend time playing games with kids and having the bee and beekeeper walk around the park, we handed out goodie bags, coloring pages, and stickers to the kids. Overall it was something I had never done before so it was a fun new experience.
Heritage Rose Garden Cleanup

Evergreen Valley Key Club attended the Heritage Rose Garden Cleanup on a Saturday morning. It was a great change of scenery after being in my room for days. Though we were lost for a good ten minutes, we eventually found our way to the hosts and were given materials to work with. The volunteers were split up into two groups. One of them was in charge of picking up scraps of dead bushes. My group dealt with cutting dead flowers and leaves off of the bushes. Many of the roses had stems with thorns, so we had to be careful and not get pricked. With much caution, I was only pricked three times during the entire event! The best part about working with the bushes was that we could take a closer look at the flowers and name tags. Each shrub had a unique name paired with a special message to the recipient, which I thought was super adorable. Working alongside us were a wide variety of different types of busy bees. The bumble bees definitely were the most entertaining to watch while cutting the dead flowers. Overall, this event was really fun attending with friends!
